The "Landesverband Film + Video Bayern e.V." [Bavarian Association Of Non-commercial Filmmakers] is a non-profit making registered association, where non-commercial bavarian clubs and their members are organized. LFVB is part of "Bundesverband Deutscher Film-Autoren e.V. (BDFA)" [German Association Of Filmmakers] and therefore also member of the worldwide non-governmental and international organisation " Union Internationale du Cinema non Professionel" (UNICA). UNICA is a member of the International Film and Television Council (I.F.T.C.) which has the status of an «A» consultative organisation at the United Nations Education Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO).

The LFVB as well as the BDFA follows exclusively non-commercial, non-profit purposes by miscellaneous promotion and care of film and video in the areas of culture, art and friendship among nations.

A particular request is our youth work, because moving forward is possible only on the basis of new creative and textual viewpoints. Everybody interested in active filmmaking can take part as a member of a Bavarian film club or as a standalone member.

The association in its current form was established 1981, as a successor of the region Bavaria in BDFA, formed in 1927. LFVB is divided in four regional communities: Franken, Niederbayern/Oberpfalz, Oberbayern and Schwaben and counts altogether 30 clubs in which approx. 650 members are organized. In addition to a lot of other activities the LFVB organizes film contests at regional community level, where the best films are forwarded to higher level federal film festivals. The LFVB top event is the Bavarian film festival, where a choice of the most worth seeing and most interesting films of the year are invited to participate. The festival is organized by LFVB every year in a different town. Crown of the festival is the Sunday matinee, where Bavarian lions are awarded for special achievements in movies. One movie is chosen as the "film of the year" and is awarded with the "big Bavarian lion with rhombus shield", that is donated by the Bavarian Prime Minister.
